Sometimes devices just help us. They improve something we already do in powerful ways. In this post, I’ll highlight three such items. First, a very cool stylus called the Logitech Crayon doesn’t require pairing and can be used on any iPad. (Imagine the teacher going around the room and using it to annotate and help students on their tablet device!) Second, the Logitech Rugged Combo 3 Touch is made for iPads with a place to store a stylus and features a trackpad and keyboard allowing touch screen devices to turn into a laptop-like experience. This gives you the best of all worlds. Third, a super-wide screen webcam, the Logitech C930e Webcam. If you need to include your entire classroom, this is the must-purchase webcam for your classroom. (Some of you may still be using hybrid learning in your classroom in the fall, and this is one you’ll want to ask for now.)

3 Logitech Devices to Improve Every Classroom

This post was sponsored by Logitech for Education and all opinions are my own. To learn more about the use of companion tools like the Logitech Crayon, Rugged Combo 3 Touch and C930e Webcam, sign up for Logitech’s Classroom of the Now webinar on June 23 at 10 a.m. PT or June 29 at 11:30 a.m. PT.

As always, remember that apps and tools are excellent compliments to an excellent teacher. So, I’ve included some teaching notes about how to use the tools with students so that we can ensure that students are learning and leveling up.

The Logitech Crayon

The Logitech Crayon pairs instantly with any iPad in your classroom, making it perfect for teacher assistance and peer feedback.

The Logitech Crayon

The Logitech Crayon is a digital iPad pencil. However, it is unique. If you’ve used the regular iPad Pencil, you’ll know it has to be paired via Bluetooth and only works with the one iPad without repairing.

With the Logitech Crayon, you press the on button, it connects to the iPad instantly with no pairing delays. This is the perfect iPad pencil for both students and teachers because it allows instant connection. It is built with Apple Pencil® technology so all of the features on the iPad that use this technology are available with the Crayon.

On a single charge,  you can write for 7.5 hours, and even shuts off automatically when you have 30 minutes of idle time to conserve battery life.

Your palm doesn’t cause problems on the iPad screen as the Logitech Crayon also uses palm rejection technology.

Why is The Logitech Crayon helpful?

Instead of just typing – which is useful (see below), students need to take notes by hand in many cases, particularly in math or science class as they write equations and draw charts.  The Logitech Crayon is far more useful than a student attempting to do this with their finger.

Teachers can give feedback on student iPads as they go from student to student with no pairing needed. This is a game-changer!

The Logitech Crayon, when added to the Rugged Combo 3 Touch below, means that an iPad can now be used for any and every project you could dream up!

My Conclusion on the Logitech Crayon

Every classroom set of iPads should have a Logitech Crayon for the teacher. However, to inspire true collaboration, the Crayon is best for all of the students and the teacher as they can work on every device in the classroom seamlessly and easily. I couldn’t live without my pencil on my iPad and the Logitech Crayon is awesome.

Logitech Rugged 3 Combo Touch

The Logitech Rugged 3 Combo Touch turns any iPad into a productivity machine with a rugged keyboard, drop resistance, and a high-quality touchpad. You don’t need a Chromebook or any other device with this case. Pair it with the Logitech Crayon and you have everything you need for a versatile technology device for every project you can create!

The Logitech Rugged Combo 3 Touch

Our school is a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) school and we allow iPads if they have a keyboard case. The Logitech Rugged Combo 3 Touch has a sealed pry-resistant keyboard, but also a trackpad that operates just like a trackpad on a laptop. In addition, it doesn’t require charging because it connects to the iPad (just keep the iPad charged.) Finally, it has drop protection up to 4.5 feet which gives durability for students.

Why is this device helpful?

In a survey of state testing agency recommendations, Logitech found in 2020 that 70% of state testing agencies highly recommended or required external keyboards on assessments (Logitech, 2020).

Keyboards can’t only be provided, they should be tactile and responsive. Having used this keyboard myself, it meets these requirements as well.

Finally, students need to be able to quickly switch between tasks. On an iPad, you often fold the case back and swipe and collaborate with fellow students. Then, a student might go into camera mode and snap a picture or video that they then need to edit. As students go into editing mode in iMovie, they will benefit from access to both a touch screen and a trackpad.  Finally, as students move to typing the summary and turning in their work, the keyboard will save time and move the iPad into “laptop mode.”

My Conclusion about the Logitech Rugged Combo 3 Touch

I believe that this case brings the best of all worlds to the iPad plus adds the protection that is needed. Breakage can be a problem for schools, so this helps. Additionally, many schools also purchase Chromebooks and this case provides all of the functionality of Chromebooks and more using the iPad, in my opinion. It literally helps you use the iPad — one tool for every project. I highly recommend the Logitech Rugged Combo 3 Touch – just make sure you purchase the right sized case for the iPad that you have in your classroom.

Logitech c930e Webcam

Most webcams just don’t have a wide enough angle to cover the entire classroom, this one does. The Logitech c930 Webcam gives you everything you need to connect your classroom to anyone anywhere.

Logitech C930e Webcam

The Logitech C930e Webcam has many features that make it ideal for today’s digitally connected teacher:

  • RightLight™ 2 gives excellent quality (with adjustable lighting) at 1080p HD video at 30 fps.
  • A 90° diagonal field of view with autofocus, pan, tilt, and zoom lets you focus on detail but also expand to include everyone.
  • The adjustable clip makes it easy to mount this camera anywhere.
  • Logitech Capture software gives you added control with panning, zooming, and more.

Why is this device helpful?

Teachers do not have time to fight with their webcam to try to focus or to include the whole classroom. Additionally, many teachers are frustrated with lighting and get tired of moving ring lights or other lighting to help their students who are at home see. The lighting technology and wide field of view are two of the best advantages for this device which make it the perfect webcam for teachers who want to film, connect, and include everyone.

My Conclusion about the Logitech C930e Webcam

I highly recommend the Logitech C930e Webcam for teachers who will continue to connect with their students at home or who will continue to teach from home themselves. This webcam will solve many of your problems.

Make Your Requests Now

Now is the time to request the devices and tools that will help you succeed in the fall. iPad prices are coming down and the Logitech Crayon and Rugged Combo 3 Touch add so much to the iPad. Additionally, the Logitech C930e Webcam is an excellent support to teachers – many of whom just need an upgrade from the camera that comes with their laptop. Teachers who are connecting with students anywhere else should definitely have an external camera that better adjusts with lighting.
